What’s in it? We’re all about transparancy so here’s the breakdown of ingredients in simple terms. No surprises at Tea Trees.
Sodium C14-C16 Olefin Sulphonate: Derived naturally from coconut, it’s a strong cleansing agent with the ability for high foaming and a well-emulsifying surfactant. It is safe for use in for personal care products that mixes well with water to remove dirt, oils, and pollutants so they can be rinsed away. It’s non toxic and is biodegradable.
Sodium Bicarbonate: AKA Baking Soda, bicarb, bicarb soda. We eat it! It’s a mild disinfectant, absorbs musty smells and can be an effective fungicide. It’s completely non-toxic and biodegradable.
Citric Acid Anhydrous: Citric Acid comes from citrus fruits. The ‘anhydrous’ part refers to ‘no water’ – hence it’s in a tablet! It’s used as a preservative, is non toxic and kills bacteria, mold and mildew. It’s considered a gentle cleaner for those with sensitive skin and is biodegradable
Polyethylene Glycol 6000: Peg6000 is biodegradable, doesn’t penetrate the skin, is used in many medicines, toothpaste and is considered biologically inert and safe by the FDA.
Sodium Benzoate: Often used as a preservative, it’s found in some soft drinks. Benzoic acid is a good preservative and when combining it with Sodium Hydroxide it becomes more dissolvable (important when considering our tablets have to dissolve!) Some bacteria produce benzoic acid when fermenting yoghurt! It’s biodegradable and non – toxic as a cleaning agent.
Lactose: A sugar found in cow’s milk. Often used in pharmaceutical applications, it aids in binding the tablet. Non toxic and naturally occurring it aids in moisturizing the skin and is common found in shampoos and even though you won’t be ingesting it, take care if you have cows milk allergies.
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid Disodium Salt: Although it’s a mouthful, EDTA Salt improves the stability of soaps and detergents and is used in eye drops and other medicines. It’s deemed safe by the FDA, isn’t well absorbed into the skin and is biodegradable.
Fragrance: Essential Oils from Coconut
Colours: Food based natural colouring
